The ETAWA would like to invite members to an afternoon of professional learning. There will be 4 simultaneous sessions, each to help with the concerns and demands of Term 4. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues before the end of the year and share ideas with ETAWA for 2019.

Session 1: Using English in Australia in your Teaching – The Love Edition

Don’t miss out on the inspiring ideas that are presented in our national journal English in Australia. You have online access to the new Love Edition packed with readings, resources and discussions about what love means today and how to have discussions with students about relationships, sexuality and identity.

Session 2: Preparing to Teach in 2019 with Melanie Thorpe

Are you new to teaching in 2019? Or maybe you’re still looking for guidance about how to prepare for the beginning of a new school year? This session will cover all the ways to make a successful, and sustainable, start in Term 1.

Session 3: Planning Lower School Courses with Melanie Hindley

This workshop walks teachers through the rationale and process of curriculum design in the English Learning Area in lower school. It aims to provide a 5 step practical process for colleagues to write their own engaging and relevant units of work that ‘ticks all the boxes’ in relation to engagement, assessment and syllabus requirements. The workshop references a sample Yr 7 programme, endorsed by ETAWA and is available online for DoE teachers.

Session 4: Reviewing and Revising English and Literature Units with Claire Jones

With our ATAR, General and Foundations courses in their third year it is time to evaluate how we are doing. Bring along a paper copy of the program for your unit/s that need reviewing and collaboratively work through the vital questions that we should ask of our syllabus, programs and teaching choices. There will be a coffee van to revive you on arrival and stay after the sessions for refreshments and conversation with your ETAWA colleagues.

  • There is free onsite parking at Hale School
  • Public transport links along Hale Road are regular
