English Teachers Association of WA

The English Teachers Association of Western Australia seeks expressions of interest from persons wishing to undertake the role of Professional Development Officer for the Association.
Duties include:
• Producing the Association’s newsletter once a term
• Editing and coordinating production of the Association’s suite of publications, including Good Answers and Interpretations
• Coordinating the Association’s online English quiz What the Dickens
• Organising and managing the Association’s annual conference
• Coordinating and delivering professional development sessions for teachers
• Liaising with the Association’s governing council, its secretariat, its members and other relevant organisations.
The successful applicant will have:
• extensive understanding and experience of English teaching in WA
• experience in delivering professional development
• experience in editing and managing the production of publications
• a high level of flexibility and initiative
• the ability to work without supervision
• strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Time allocation
It is envisaged that in the first instance the position will be 0.6 FTE, but persons wishing to negotiate alternative fractional appointments should feel free to apply.
The association is flexible as to how the officer’s hours are distributed across a week, but there are a limited number of occasions when hours are non-negotiable, such as when the Association’s online quiz is running.
Location
The majority of the officer’s working time will be undertaken at the Association’s office at City Beach High School.
Duration of appointment
In the first instance the appointment will be from 5 May to 31 December 2008.
Nature of appointment
The appointment will be on a fee for service basis. The successful applicant will not be employed by the association but as a sub-contractor who will invoice the association on a fortnightly basis for the services provided plus GST. The successful applicant will need an ABN.
Remuneration
The remuneration rate will be pro rata equivalent to an Education Officer III with the Department of Education and Training.
