Fogarty Scholarships for a Grad Dip in Educational Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation
The following information about specific units may be of interest.
EDUC8660 Assessment and Measurement
The purpose of this unit is to develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts of assessment and measurement necessary for systematically investigating developmental continua, designing and constructing assessments, using information from assessments, and evaluating the quality of assessments.
We are all familiar with physical measurement, having measured and used measurements of such things as length, temperature and mass in every day life. In such contexts however, we generally have no involvement in the construction of measuring instruments. Consequently, in these contexts we are users of measuring instruments, and measurement is merely an act in which an already constructed instrument is used. In this course, we are concerned with the measurement as a process in which assessments are deliberately constructed to measure particular abilities, data are generated, and inferences drawn.
EDUC8661 Measurement and Evaluation
The purpose of this unit is to develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts necessary for using information from assessments to evaluate the performance of individual students and groups of students. The course consolidates understandings of concepts of assessment and measurement necessary for collecting comprehensive information about student performance as a basis for evaluating performance. We consider how cognitive development can be measured through teacher devised assessments and how the information about student performance can be used in combination with information from standardized testing programs to provide pictures of individual and group performance. A key principle is that the quality of assessments of individuals is fundamental to the quality of assessment of groups.'
