Perspectives on the Glossary
Shenton College, Shenton Park, Wednesday 5th April 4:30pm – 5:30pm
You are invited to join our panel for a discussion on the function and interpretation of the ATAR English and Literature glossaries, examining not only specific and problematic terms – ‘perspective’, ‘intertextuality’, ‘allusion’, ‘genre’, and ‘aesthetics’ – but also the potential of the glossary as a teaching tool, and its application both in reference to course-specific usage and across the discipline as a whole. Drawing together perspectives from classroom, the secondary sector generally, and from tertiary research and teaching, this discussion will offer critical and conceptual understandings as well as practical approaches in teaching. Ned Curthoys and Catherine Noske, offering the tertiary perspective from the University of Western Australia, will talk to the history and function of the glossary across both literary studies and creative writing, while Claire Jones and Hugh Rayner will carry the discussion from definition to application.
